What is Yoga Therapy?
Yoga therapy is an innovative and natural approach that addresses structural alignment issues, rehabilitation of
injuries and chronic painful conditions. It is appropriate for everyone - from the yoga student who experiences discomfort or limitation in certain poses to the non-yogi who has an on-going chronic condition that restricts their ability to exercise effectively.

The session is also helpful for the yogi, not in pain or injured, but wants help analyzing their asana practice to explore where limitations exist that prevent fullest expression of the postures.

The value in trying something new:

If you've been "stuck" or frustrated with body therapies you have tried, you may find yoga therapy's unique, pro-active approach
will give you new insight and help. Yoga therapy has numerous therapeutic tools generally not utlized in other bodywork and physical rehabilitation systems.

And, its NOT only for the yoga practitioner! Proper alignment effects everyone's health.
Yoga therapy can evaluate issues that arise in work, sports, or with everyday activities.

What the session is like:

The session is performed
both on the mat and on a massage table.

An evaluation of your
postural alignment and body mechanics is taken, determining what is working for you and what is not.

Gentle movement is given to assist your body into more aligned and therapeutic posture,
often with the use of yoga props.
Verbal guidance is given to increase your awareness.

Physical imbalances or blockages are addressed with table work that gently improves structural and muscular balance.

Your body learns to recognize and support the subtle changes being made- not just for immediate comfort, but also for their life-lasting effects.

Valuable exercise and advice will also be given so you'll know what to do once you walk out the door t keep the process going.

The work is very precise and analytical, yet done in generally a non-dialog fashion to allow the body's natural communication to truely express itself. It will not be confusing and will make sense to you.

No repetitive treatment plans.

No forceful adjustments.

The goal is to empower the client!

This work is:
Gentle
Body honoring
Rational, yet full of heart and spirit
When possible, each session is complete, not requiring extended visits

This is not a chiropractic session!

Almost all approaches in physical medicine, including physical therapy and chiropractic, and most approaches in stretching and floor exercise, have yoga postures and principles at their root.

Besides his many years of background as a yoga student and teacher, this work benefits from the insight and hands-on expertise of Dr. Weiss' thirty years experience as a holistic chiropractor and educator in anatomy and biomechanics. However, the actual therapy provided is completely from the realms of yoga therapy.

Dr. Weiss is a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists.

"For many years, my specialty and passion has been to focus on the the most difficult and chronic cases. My hope is to melt away the frustration and confusion you may have lived with for all too long". Steven Weiss, MS, DC, RYT

"The best therapy is alignment and alignment is the best therapeutic." John Friend, founder of Anusara Yoga
